The Best Way to Paint by Numbers

Over the years, we received a lot of questions from our customers on the best way to paint by numbers. Whether it's to paint from top to bottom, or follow and paint by the numbers. So today, we want to share some of our own experience, hopefully you will find it useful.

Paint from top to bottom

Pros:

This technique is great when you don't paint on an easel. Because when you paint from top to bottom, you can keep your canvas steady by holding on to the lower part of the canvas, so your hand won't accidentally touch on the wet paints that you have just applied somewhere on the canvas.

Cons:

The inconvenience of this approach is you will have to wash your paint brush every time a new number is coming along at the top. You will be likely to find the same number exist somewhere in the middle or at the bottom of the canvas. Keep washing the paint brush is not only inconvenience, but it may also reduce the accuracy of the paint brush.

Paint by the numbers (or painting one section at a time according to the number)

Pros:

By painting one number at a time, you don't have to regularly swapping between two or more different paint colours. It is therefore much faster to complete a painting. It keeps your mind focus on completing a certain number and when a number has been completed, you usually has a sense of achievement which in turn will motivate you to complete the next number.

Cons:

Sometime when you have a complex painting, to find a certain number may be difficult. Especially when a number represents tiny areas in the canvas, and you will most likely miss the number and have to come back to it later on.

In summary:

There is no one size fits all with painting by numbers. Our recommendation is to paint as freely as your wish. Don't be stress out, just enjoy the painting. Paint by numbers kit is very forgiving, if you make a mess or a mistake, all you need to do is to paint on top of the mistake and the painting will be great again. Finally, we always encourage our customers to add their own creativity with the colours, add your own touch to the painting. After all there is no two painting is identical, so why should your paint by numbers masterpiece be identical.

Hope you find this information useful.
